Reinstate Weekly Bin Collections in Albany, Western Australia

Reinstate Weekly Bin Collections in Albany, Western Australia
The issue
As a community in Albany, Western Australia, we are finding life more difficult since the decision was made to change our bin collections from weekly to fortnightly. Our bins are overflowing, and we are receiving stickers on our bins as a consequence. This change is not only inconvenient but is also greatly impacting our daily lives.
Many of us are struggling to understand why such a decision has been implemented when there was no visible problem with the previous system. We used to have our waste collected every week. This ensured our bins were never too full and we could dispose of our waste in a hygienic and timely manner. Yet, the council deemed it necessary to change the frequency to a fortnightly collection.
The result? An overflow of rubbish and a community grappling with the implications. The accumulation of waste is not only unsightly but can have health implications, particularly in the warmer months when it can attract vermin.
While the aim may have been to encourage recycling and reduce general waste, this drastic change, unfortunately, seems to have caused more issues for individuals and families struggling to adapt. Moreover, limiting bin collection may not be the right approach towards sustainable waste management.
It is time for our voices to be heard on this matter. We urge the Albany City Council to reinstate the weekly bin collections and rethink their approach to waste management. We ask for your support in helping to return normalcy back to our community. Please sign this petition to ensure that this change is reconsidered.
