Reinstate traditional table service at Alamo Drafthouse Charlottesville
The Issue
I have been a dedicated server at the Alamo Drafthouse in Charlottesville for nearly four years, providing quality, personal service that our guests know and appreciate. Recently, management has been pushing a QR code mobile ordering system upon both guests and servers. This shift is not only affecting my ability to earn a living but is also negatively impacting the dining experience that our guests expect and love.
Many patrons have clearly expressed their dissatisfaction with mobile ordering. In fact, I've heard numerous complaints about the lack of direct interaction and the impersonal nature of this system. Moreover, some guests do not have the technology needed to scan QR codes, leaving them feeling excluded and frustrated. Despite this, some servers have misleadingly told customers that QR codes are the only ordering option, distorting the dining experience drastically.
The imposition of QR code ordering has far-reaching consequences for servers. Those compliant with these changes report earning less in tips—an integral part of our income. I personally have been demoted to a less paying position simply because I upheld the tradition of offering guests a choice in their dining service. This demotion is so severe that it threatens my ability to pay rent and meet basic living expenses.
Instead of forcing a one-size-fits-all solution, why not give patrons the option to choose between direct service and mobile ordering? This approach would respect customers' preferences, enhance their experience, and ensure employees can continue to earn a fair wage.
By signing this petition, you are supporting not only the livelihoods of devoted servers but also the preservation of the personal, customer-focused service that makes dining at the Alamo Drafthouse in Charlottesville so special. Let’s urge the management to allow both servers and guests the option to choose the service method that best suits them, thereby maintaining the unique and personalized experience that defines Alamo Drafthouse.
Please sign this petition to help us bring back traditional table service and protect the jobs of those who have tirelessly served this community.
