Reinstate the Maine-Endwell Cheer Coaching Staff

The Issue

We, the undersigned, members of the Maine-Endwell community, including students, parents, alumni, and supporters, are writing to express our deep concern over the recent resignation of cheerleading coaches Natalie Nirchi, Daniella Weston, and Cara Connelly. Their decision to step down was not due to lack of commitment or passion for the program, but rather due to an untenable situation that resulted from insufficient support from both the administration and athletic department.

We believe the resignation of these coaches represents a significant loss to the Maine-Endwell cheerleading program, the athletes, and the school as a whole. Natalie, Daniella, and Cara have shown exceptional dedication to the team and have consistently demonstrated their abilities to inspire, motivate, and develop our student-athletes both on and off the mat. Under their leadership, the team has flourished, earning numerous accolades and, more importantly, fostering an environment of teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship.

The decision to step down was not made lightly by these coaches. They were faced with a lack of adequate support and respect for their professional judgment, which severely limited their ability to fulfill their roles effectively. Without proper backing from the administration, they found themselves in situations that compromised their ability to make decisions in the best interest of the athletes' safety, the team’s cohesion, and the overall integrity of the program. This, we believe, was unjust and detrimental not only to the coaches but also to the students who depend on their guidance.

We urge the Maine-Endwell School District to take immediate action to address the issues that led to this outcome by:

1. Reinstating Natalie Nirchi, Daniella Weston, and Cara Connelly to their coaching positions.
2. Providing these coaches with the support and resources they need to ensure a positive and safe environment for all athletes.
3. Establishing clear lines of communication and decision-making authority that respect the professional expertise of the coaching staff.
4. Engaging in meaningful dialogue with the cheerleading program’s stakeholders—including coaches, athletes, and parents—to foster a culture of collaboration and mutual respect.

Natalie, Daniella, and Cara have earned the trust and respect of our community, and their return would restore the stability and excellence of the cheerleading program. Their absence leaves a significant void that will be difficult, if not impossible, to fill. We ask that the administration reconsider their departure and take the necessary steps to bring these exemplary coaches back to the program, ensuring that Maine-Endwell continues to be a leader in athletic excellence and student development.

We, the undersigned, strongly support the reinstatement of these coaches and are prepared to engage in further discussions to facilitate their return and promote a more supportive environment for all involved.
