Argyll and Bute Council has removed Jura's decades-old, timetabled late evening ferry, with no notice, no warning and no regard for the Jura community. 

This service was never a "luxury". It was the key evening link for medical appointments, workers, meetings, education, family connection and social contact, youth and adult sports.

It connected us to mainland CalMac ferries, Loganair flights and visiting neighbouring islands. 

We are now cut off from the mainland and Islay at 6.30pm.  Many people are now struggling without this sailing.  

Furthermore, the cancellation disregards the needs of local businesses that rely on flexible transport options.  Our local events including the Jura Music Festival are being affected which are key to Jura's community and economy.

Jura is an island off an island and relies entirely on the Jura ferry linking to other public transport connections. Without this evening link people are now stranded or having to choose costly overnight accommodation.

A community like ours should be consulted before any significant change. 

We call on the council to:

Reinstate the late ferry service immediately.

Set up an advisory board of community members, transport experts and council representatives, so that future transport decisions are transparent and include the community's voice.
