Yet this year, our beloved rivalry game has been unreasonably cancelled, leaving players, students, parents, and fans deeply disheartened.

For years, the Hudson versus Central basketball game has been more than just a sporting event. It is an embodiment of the spirit of friendly competition, a unifying force that brings our towns together to celebrate shared values and mutual respect. It's a time that many in our community look forward to, where old friends reunite, local businesses thrive, and locals of all ages enjoy an atmosphere of camaraderie.

Cancelling this event robs our student-athletes of the chance to showcase their hard work and dedication. Foes for the night but friends in the end. Furthermore, it undermines the community's opportunity to support and engage in one of the most cherished traditions of the year.

We urge the administrations of both Hudson and Central schools to reconsider their decision. The young men involved in the basketball program, whose actions have apparently caused this cancellation have stepped up the way young men should. Without any adult input they took upon themselves to take responsibility for their actions, apologize and promise to do better. 

By playing this game, not only will we uphold a meaningful tradition, but we will also support the wellbeing of our students and community members during a time when such events are vital for morale and unity.
