REINSTATE The "FISHERS GHOST STREET PARADE" in Campbelltown NSW
The issue
Born and raised in Campbelltown, New South Wales, I have grown up with the "FISHERS GHOST STREET PARADE" as a cornerstone of our community. This cherished event, which has formed a critical part of our local history since the mid 1950's, was halted following the last Parade in November 2019. Campbelltown City Council attributed this to a supposed lack of participants and attendees, but I argue that the timing of the Covid-19 pandemic & fiscal restrictions (Limited Funding) played a significant role in the Parades demise. We can't allow this to erase decades of tradition and unity in our community.
The Fishers Ghost Parade, named after the famous local legend of Frederick Fisher, has been a significant feature of Campbelltown for over half a century. Through every float and costume, this parade has allowed us to express our creativity, boosted communal ties, and has been a demonstration of our incredible local history.
Bringing back the parade will uphold a crucial pillar of our community's identity and reinvigorate the sense of unity in our town. We must raise our voices to get the attention of Campbelltown City Council and inspire them to reinstate this cherished tradition.
So, I ask you to sign this petition that seeks to bring back the Fishers Ghost Parade and keep the spirit of Campbelltown’s history alive. This appeal is more than just about a parade, it's about preserving our heritage and fostering community spirit. It's time we stand together, for Campbelltown, for history, for community. Please, sign this petition.
