Reinstate the Field Permit for Wayland vs. Weston Powderpuff!

Reinstate the Field Permit for Wayland vs. Weston Powderpuff!
The Issue
The Wayland and Weston school administrations jointly cancelled the Wayland vs. Weston Powderpuff game many months ago. However, the class presidents decided to host a private, non-school sanctioned game that all seniors were invited to participate in. A field permit at the Wayland High School Football Field was acquired, as was insurance for the game. However, on November 18 - five days before the game - the field permit was allegedly revoked by the Wayland Recreation Department after alleged pressure from School Administration. Additionally, on that day, Allyson Mizoguchi and Paul Peri, Principals of Wayland and Weston High, respectively, sent an email* that concluded with "we will end the interscholastic Powder Puff [sic] competition this year." However, as early as December 18, 2021, it was announced that the school would not sponsor the 2022 Powderpuff game, as reported by Wayland Student Press Network.** This raises many questions, but the most important are:
1) Why are administration getting involved with an event that has minimal relevance to them?
2) Why was the Newsletter sent this late and only to Parents?
3) With insurance and a field permit acquired, why was a field permit revoked?
We hope that the broader Wayland/Weston community can join together to reinstate the field permit so our seniors can appreciate their final days.
*This memo was not sent to students, rather, it was included in the Wayland High School newsletter that was sent to Wayland Parents on November 18, 2022.
