Reinstate the Arnette Park walk-through Christmas lights

Reinstate the Arnette Park walk-through Christmas lights
The Issue
For many of us in Cumberland County, North Carolina, the annual visit to the Arnette Park Christmas lights was a cherished tradition. I personally fondly remember those magical evenings during my childhood—walking amidst the twinkling lights, drinking a warm cup of hot chocolate, savoring my roasted (sometimes burnt, yum.) marshmallows, and listening to heartfelt holiday carols sung by choirs. It was always a time of wonder, creating a warm memory for the holiday season.
However, in recent years, this magical experience has been altered by the ability to drive through the light display. While driving offers convenience, it takes away the opportunity for families, friends, and especially children, to engage with the lights in a more personal and immersive manner.
Reinstating the walking path through the Arnette Park Christmas lights would bring back the joy and charm that many of us hold dear. Walking among the displays not only enhances the community feel, but also encourages physical activity and promotes local tourism, as visitors linger longer, enjoy local refreshments, and possibly dine in nearby eateries.
By reintroducing the walk-through experience, we can also support local businesses that thrive on holiday traffic. Local vendors offering hot chocolate, snacks, and festive trinkets along the path not only enhance the holiday ambiance but also stimulate the local economy.
Furthermore, the walk-through experience enriches social interactions. Families and friends can leisurely stroll, take memorable photographs, and truly bask in the holiday spirit together. Such traditions foster community relationships and nurture a sense of belonging that is vital for community resilience.
We propose a dedicated walk-through time daily, preserving the drive-through option for those who prefer it. This compromise ensures everyone can enjoy the lights in their preferred manner, appeasing both nostalgic walkers and convenience-seeking drivers.
Please join us in urging the Fayetteville Parks and Recreation Department to bring back the walk-through tradition at Arnette Park. Let's restore the true spirit of the holidays and create new, lasting memories for generations to come. Sign the petition and be part of bringing back a beloved holiday tradition.
