Reinstate Sunday Service and Expand KRT Routes for Essential Needs

Reinstate Sunday Service and Expand KRT Routes for Essential Needs

The Issue

Like me, countless residents in our community rely on the Kanawha Valley Regional Transportation Authority (KRT) routes for our daily commutes, be it for work, attending church, or fulfilling essential needs. Tragically, the suspension of KRT's service on Sundays and the limited coverage of their routes have deprived us of our key mode of transport.

Our appeal here is twofold. First, we implore KRT to reinstate its Sunday routes, providing a lifeline for those of us who have no other transportation options. Second, we urge KRT to consider extending its current routes. The expansion of these routes will ensure that even more communities can access the service, making a significant difference in many lives.

According to the American Public Transportation Association, an estimated 45% of Americans are dependent on public transportation (APTA, 2017). We are among this percentage. We need regular, dependable service every day of the week to manage our essential affairs, sustain our livelihoods and be part of our community.

We request the relevant decision-makers and stakeholders to attend to this urgent call. We have confidence in the belief that reinstating Sunday services and expanding the routes will benefit not just us, but our community as a whole. Please stand with us, sign this petition, and help us bring about this critical change.

Please share this petition with your friends and family. Way too many people in our region are dependent on the busses to get to work, church, get their necessities, and see family as well as get to vital appointments. I understand there will still be busses running Monday through Saturday but it's apparent they're trying to slowly take away the bus routes all together and even then many people have to work on Sundays and plenty of people without family have church as their only sense of belonging in our community. Also, it's no secret our state/area has one of the highest rates of poverty so we can't expect majority of these people to start depending on lyft, Uber, or taxis. As well as taking away so many people's mode of transportation will cause job loss and many people getting hours cut. We need to stand together as a community and not allow this to happen. Thank you
