Reinstate Student Buyouts for Games at Carleton Place High School

The Issue

Carleton Place High School used to allow students to pay $2 for buyouts, providing them with the opportunity to watch their classmates play. This practice not only fostered a sense of community and school spirit but also provided invaluable real-world experience for those of us interested in pursuing careers in sports.

However, this beneficial practice has been discontinued. The loss is felt by many - from students who enjoyed watching their peers compete, to those  who gained practical skills through running game days.

Research shows that student engagement in extracurricular activities such as these can lead to improved academic performance and increased social skills (Canadian Journal of Education). Furthermore, according to a study published by the University of Ottawa, participation in school-based sports can contribute significantly towards building a sense of community among students.

By reinstating student buyouts for games at Carleton Place High School, we would be promoting student engagement and fostering a stronger sense of community within our school. We urge the administration to reconsider their decision and bring back this enriching tradition that benefits everyone involved.
