Reinstate Statehood and Democracy in Jammu and Kashmir

Reinstate Statehood and Democracy in Jammu and Kashmir
The Issue
We are citizens of Jammu and Kashmir, and for the last six years, our region has endured a period that has deeply challenged our democratic rights. We were subjected to an undemocratic process, deprived of our basic rights, and stripped of our statehood, which was downgraded to a Union Territory. This change has significantly impacted our ability to govern ourselves and make decisions for our region.
Once a vibrant state full of potential, Jammu and Kashmir was governed by its people. This changed without our consent, and we lost not only our statehood but, more importantly, our autonomy. This is a violation of our rights and a massive setback for the democratic values we cherish.
Our state once enjoyed special status under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, which granted us autonomy over our internal administration and allowed us to have our own constitution and flag. However, on August 5, 2019, this special status was revoked, and Jammu and Kashmir were bifurcated into two Union Territories—Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
Our demands are clear. We, the people of Jammu and Kashmir, call upon the responsible authorities to reinstate our statehood. We want our autonomy back so that we can make decisions for our beloved region. We demand the reinstatement of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and the restoration of the democratic rights we have been deprived of.
Support us in our fight for justice. Please, stand with Jammu and Kashmir and sign this petition.
