I am a resident and a parent whose most pressing concern is the safety of our children, particularly at the playground in Fisherman’s Park. The playground's proximity to the parking lot and the river is alarming, especially with the absence of adequate fencing. This lack of protection exposes our children to unnecessary risks, including the threat of run-over accidents, a growing issue in the US with as many as 50 children being backed over by vehicles every week, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Moreover, the playground's situation near the river poses the threat of accidental drowning, which is the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages 1 to 14, as per The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The safety of our children cannot be compromised by overlooking such essential security measures. We need to restore secure fencing around the playground at Fisherman’s Park. We, as responsible citizens and concerned parents, need to ensure the playground is a safe space for children to play, grow, and learn.
