The Issue
As a pensioner living in Mablethorpe, I used to rely on the Saturday morning recycling centre at the Mablethorpe Industrial Estate, operated by Sid Dennis. It was a convenient and vital service for many of us, allowing responsible disposal of waste, especially electrical items, which we are now unable to do locally.
The nearest alternative is a recycling centre in Louth, which is a half-hour drive away. For those of us on a fixed income, especially pensioners, the cost of fuel for such a trip just to recycle rubbish is unsustainable and discourages regular recycling efforts. It is not only a financial burden but also an environmental one, as the emissions and costs from driving negate the very benefits of recycling.
The Mablethorpe recycling centre provided an accessible, local solution, encouraging more residents to participate in recycling without the hindrance of long travel times or costs. Closing it has left a sizeable gap in our community’s ability to manage waste responsibly.
Reinstating the Saturday morning recycling centre would not only support the environment but also significantly aid people like me in our community. It would restore a much-needed local resource, reduce unnecessary car usage, and promote sustainable practices within our town.
We call on local authorities and stakeholders to bring back this essential service to our community. Let’s make recycling feasible for everyone, bolster our local resource management, and take a positive step towards environmental sustainability.
Please sign this petition to bring back the Mablethorpe recycling centre on Saturdays and support our community's well-being and environmental responsibility.
