On 8 September 2025, South Lanarkshire Council confirmed that my complaint (Ref: 2623681) about the school transport petition had been formally logged as a Stage 2 complaint, with a promised response within 20 working days (excluding school holidays), setting a deadline of 8 October 2025.
That deadline has now passed, and we’ve still not received a response.
Today, I’ve written to the Council requesting an urgent update and a confirmed date for when their full response will be issued.
This delay is unacceptable, especially when children’s safety is the issue at stake.
We’ve asked for answers on:
- When and how the Sandford–Strathaven route was last assessed, and under what conditions.
- Why outdated guidance that ignores lighting, barriers, and crossings continues to be used.
- What assumptions are being made about adult supervision for secondary pupils.
- What safety improvements (if any) are planned.
- How the Council will meet its obligations under the UNCRC (Scotland) Act 2024 to include children’s voices.
If no response is received soon, we’ll be escalating the matter to the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman (SPSO).
Families deserve transparency, honesty, and action, not delays and silence.
We will continue to press until every question is answered and real change is made.
