Professor Andrea MacPherson had been working at the University of the Fraser Valley since 2005 as part of the English department. She taught students creative writing and her courses were not only educational, but highly sought after by students. In fact, due to the small size of the institution and department many students have taken a large number of courses with this instructor.
Sadly, half way through this last term, Andrea Macpherson suddenly disappeared and has been unresponsive to students. Many students know that Ms. MacPherson does not cancel classes and even when she does, they are rerooted to virtual platforms such as zoom. Andrea MacPherson had also been planning for next term. Even though students attempted to reach out to the institutions administration we received little response for our concerns and were told that we could not be given any information. This past week however, some students were notified in another class setting that Andrea Macpherson would not be returning to the institution, and that the instructor making this announcement does not  feel comfortable in an an institution  where such practices were occurring.  Thus, students did not even discover this information through the administration, and many of us feel as if our education has been compromised as Ms. MacPherson was one of the few creative writing instructors at UFV and was highly dedicated to her students and their growth and learning. Due to this, several students have already begun to transfer to new institutions so we call upon the University of the Fraser Valley and its Administration to reinstate Andrea Macpherson to her prior job.
