Despite the concerns that Professor Graeber, I and many other experienced senior academics have for the University of Sydney, it’s impossible to not notice a stream of glad tidings in glossy promotional announcements from the University’s well-funded PR machine.
It is equally impossible to not see the similarity with some recent and notable corporate failures, where ‘the lid’ was kept on underlying problems with well crafted spin, but where reality eventually forced restructures and CEO departures, together with public disgrace and admissions of failure.
The University of Sydney is too important a public institution to ‘just let fail’, and it would be nice if self-correction could occur, before the university goes the way of the spin-master executives who have recently punctuated the news.
Restoring probity, free speech and Professor Graeber to his post in the University of Sydney, would be a good start, and I thank you again for your part towards that end.
