Reinstate Pete the Pirate at Pearl High School Events

The Issue

Pete the Pirate, the embodiment of dedication and pride at Pearl High School, has been a significant part of our community for years. So deep is his fondness for our school, that he is known as the biggest fan of our sports teams, the Pearl Pirates. Pete's devotion extends to appearing at multiple events, supporting the younger generation, often sharing his infectious Pirates' spirit. He is more than just a fan. Pete represents the life-vibrance of the Pearl High School community, engaging constantly and consistently in building a positive culture.

In all his years of involvement, he has participated in the annual Pearl homecoming parade without a single hitch. Regrettably, our beloved Pete was denied participation in the recent parade, without clear justification by the current principal. This incident has caused a cloud of disappointment to hover over our community, especially Pete, who 'lives, breathes, and eats Pearl Pirates.'

It's crucial to remind ourselves that schools are not merely educational institutions but also social ecosystems fueling unity, nurturing passion, and encouraging bonds. Being age-old symbols of school unity and spirit, mascots play a significant role in keeping the school's spirit alive, according to a study by the National Federation of State High School Associations.

We respectfully urge the school administration to reconsider its decision, prioritize the importance of school spirit and unity, and restore Pete’s rightful place at Pearl High events. His spirit, commitment, and love for Pearl Pirates should not be disregarded; instead, it should be celebrated. Please support our call to reinstate Pete the Pirate at Pearl High School events.
