Reinstate Nicole Malachowski's Military Achievements and Acknowledge Her Advocacy
The Issue
The achievements of Nicole Malachowski include the first female Thunderbird pilot, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Combat Readiness Medal., Global War on Terrorism Medal. She has held command positions, and became a revered advocate for the necessity for the military to swiftly recognize Lyme disease. Nicole flew over 2300 flight missions. She possesses all the qualities we admire in a person: resilience, courage, tenacity, and leadership. Recently, her image, story, and well-deserved honors were removed under the banner of DEI, which contradicts its own principles of diversity, inclusion, and equity. The removal of Nicole's achievements is unfounded unless every single honor bestowed upon men is removed as well. We see this as a glaring contradiction that demands rectification.
On top of her groundbreaking military service, Nicole actively educates people about Lyme disease, the most frequently misdiagnosed disease, which bears a triple rate of syphilis and is associated with chronic illnesses. Lyme disease, tragically often ignored by military doctors and the public alike, affects millions, jeopardizes military preparedness, and costs enormous sums to manage. People suffering from this disease often endure severe debility and in some tragic cases, this debilitating condition has led to suicide. Nicole's educational endeavors are making a significant difference, providing much-needed awareness about this infection.
We call on the relevant authorities to reinstate Nicole Malachowski's achievements, recognizing her sterling service, and her impactful disease advocacy. We bring this to your attention in the hope that Nicole’s recognition will be restored and her advocacy work acknowledged, not erased. Please sign this petition to support reinstating Nicole's accomplishments and improving Lyme disease education in military medical practices.
