Reinstate NHS Dental Appointments Across the UK

Reinstate NHS Dental Appointments Across the UK
The Issue
As a wheelchair user, I have struggled immensely to access necessary dental care since the COVID-19 lockdown. Like many others, I have found NHS dental services to be increasingly unavailable. The barriers to accessing routine, treatment, and emergency appointments through the NHS have left countless individuals, particularly those with disabilities and those from low-income households, vulnerable and in pain.
The situation is dire, with even NHS 111 unable to offer assistance for dental needs. Many dental practices have stopped accepting NHS patients altogether, or only accept a limited number, often without guaranteeing continued care. This leaves patients, who cannot afford private dental fees, at a loss for what to do. The regions most affected include rural areas like Norfolk and Suffolk, where the scarcity of available services is even more pronounced.
Statistics show that a large percentage of the population has been unable to find an NHS dentist, with many feeling forced to seek costly private alternatives. This is an unacceptable state of affairs for a health service that should be accessible to everyone, irrespective of their financial situation.
The lack of available NHS dentists is particularly troubling for low-income and disabled individuals. Emergency treatment is often inaccessible, leading to worsening conditions and preventable suffering for many vulnerable people.
The time has come to address this issue urgently. The government must take action to reinstate full NHS dental appointments for all. Prioritising funding and resources to ensure that anyone in need of dental care can access it is crucial.
We are calling on the UK government and health authorities to provide immediate solutions and long-term investment to make NHS dental care available again, equitable, and sustainable. Sign this petition to demand action. Reinstate NHS dental services now and protect the health and dignity of every person across the UK.
