Reinstate Mr. Hsi to the Science Research Program at VSSHS

Reinstate Mr. Hsi to the Science Research Program at VSSHS
The Issue
To the Valley Stream Board of Education,
We, the undersigned students, families, staff, alumni, and community members associated with Valley Stream, implore you to immediately reinstate Mr. Jeffrey Hsi to his position within the Valley Stream South High School Science Research Program.
Mr. Hsi's unwarranted removal stems from a series of escalating complaints lodged by a Board of Education Trustee. Despite three separate internal inquiries, each exonerating Mr. Hsi of any intentional wrongdoing, the Trustee’s persistent complaints, alleging ethical violations, culminated in disciplinary action and Mr. Hsi’s permanent removal from the program.
For 22 years, Mr. Hsi has dedicated himself to the success of 20-25 research students annually. His unparalleled tenure boasts the longest track record of research competition achievements among all Valley Stream schools and research teachers.
His students have achieved recognition as Regeneron Semi-Finalists and International Science Fair Winners. Mr. Hsi’s absence creates a critical gap in the program, particularly in areas such as statistical analysis, laboratory techniques, and experimental design, which are essential for student success. The specialized nature of Science Research requires a significant time commitment outside of school hours, making it a role not easily assumed by other science teachers.
This decision not only disregards Mr. Hsi's 22 years of demonstrated student success but also prevents him from working with students this summer, severely impacting the program. Our students deserve continuity and the continued guidance of a proven educator. Mr. Hsi's removal is a devastating setback for the Valley Stream South High School Science Research Program and, most significantly, for the students who rely on his expertise and mentorship.
We, therefore, urge the Board of Education to immediately reinstate Mr. Hsi, ensuring the continued prosperity and well-being of this invaluable program for both current and future students.
We strongly encourage you to amplify your support by filing a formal complaint with the Board of Education.
