Reinstate Memorial Bench in Linda Vista Gardens, Abergavenny

Reinstate Memorial Bench in Linda Vista Gardens, Abergavenny
The Issue
We, the undersigned, call on Monmouthshire County Council to honour its original commitment to fully reinstate the memorial bench in Linda Vista Gardens following the completion of maintenance works.
These memorials were installed with permission and hold deep personal and community significance. They commemorate Damion, Nathan, and Weddy; three individuals who were deeply loved and are greatly missed.
Nathan, who served his country in the army, originally secured permission for a memorial bench in honour of his friend Damion. Following Nathan’s passing, his family sought to honour him in the same respectful way, alongside Weddy, whose memorial was also placed with care and love.
The council’s recent decision to replace this meaningful memorial with a standard bench and small plaque is not an acceptable alternative. It does not reflect the promises made, nor the importance of these tributes to the families and wider community.
We respectfully request that the council:
• Reinstates the original memorial bench in the previous location within Linda Vista Gardens
• Upholds the commitment previously made to the families
• Engages transparently and respectfully with the families moving forward
This memorial is more than a physical structure. It is a lasting tributes to lives, friendships, and community.
We urge the council to do the right thing.
