Thank you for previously signing this petition about reinstating the mask mandate at the University of Waterloo in 2022.
Unfortunately, there remains a lack of safety measures on campus regarding the ongoing pandemic, putting students, faculty, staff, and other employees at continued risk of (re)infection. Since this petition was started, we have learned much more about the harms of SARS-CoV-2, and there is so much more that needs to be done to make our campus a safer and more accessible place for everyone.
I am sharing this update with you because a new open letter has been published by the Covid Action, Response and Equity (CARE) Coalition UW, a group of University of Waterloo Students, Staff, Alumni and Faculty concerned about the University's near-total silence and inaction about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
CARE Coalition UW is asking the University for a virtual/hybrid town hall to discuss COVID-19 safety measures with senior administrators and for the institution to uphold its values of diversity, equity, and inclusion by implementing the recommendations outlined below.
- Timely, actionable, and accurate communication about COVID-19.
- Indoor air quality measures to ensure the air we breathe is safe.
- Ongoing monitoring of and response to COVID-19 risk on campus
- Measures to support equity, accessibility and inclusion amid an ongoing airborne pandemic.
If you are interested in reading the letter, adding your signature (publicly or anonymously), or sharing this letter with others, please use the link above/below or scan the QR code above.
Currently, the letter is open to signatories from folks affiliated with UWaterloo (i.e., current students, post-docs, faculty, staff, alums/former students, other employees, and retirees).
Thank you for your support!
