Reinstate lifeline bus route number 12

Stagecoach has reduced the number 12 bus service to once per hour, leaving residents of The Lonnen and surrounding streets, as well as residents across the route, stranded and isolated.
Stagecoach did not follow any engagement or consultation about these changes and how it would impact people. In line with the Code of Conduct outline in the Enhanced Partnership Scheme between bus operators and local authorities,- these changes should have been communicated 18 weeks prior to them taking place!
As the highest residential streets in South Shields, it is not acceptable to expect elderly and Disabled residents unable to get to healthcare appointments, or to fork out for taxis to go about their daily living. It is impossible for some for the residents to walk back up the hill home with shopping from The Nook at Harton. This is the closest place to buy fresh healthy food.
Residents have experienced waiting 1.5 hours for the number 12 bus to show up, or having to walk because the bus came early and was missed. For one resident, the bus did not arrive at the scheduled time and he was forced to walk his shopping home. He fell, struggling up the hill, severely injuring his arm.
'We have worked all our lives paying tax and retire up here in a bungalow. Only to be left stranded without transport to go about our daily lives!'
We are asking Stagecoach to reinstate the half hourly no.12 service and complete the 18 week consultation period involving residents and the local bus board.
Please sign and share.
We want public transport that serves communities, not profit!
