Like many students at Emerson College, we often find our schedules packed with classes, meetings, and rehearsals almost every day. The Max Grill used to be the perfect place to unwind and connect with fellow students. Unfortunately, the recent decision to close the Max Grill earlier in the evening has disrupted this important part of student life. The Student Theatre Alliance of Emerson College and the Emerson College Performing Arts Alliance would like to see this policy changed to keep the Max open until midnight.

At Emerson College, the performing arts are a vital component of our identity and educational experience. Rehearsals and performances almost always extend to 11pm in Paramount, making it difficult for students to find eatery options that fit within the constraints of a busy student schedule. The late-night hours at Max Grill provided a crucial service to accommodate the unique schedules of students pursuing the performing arts as well as others who need meal options after regular dining hall hours.

The lack of late-night dining at Max Grill not only impacts our access to hot meals but also diminishes the sense of community we cherished after long rehearsals. Gathering at the Max was more than just a meal; it was a chance to de-stress, socialize, and build relationships that are the cornerstone of an enriched academic experience at Emerson.

We urge the administration of Emerson College to reconsider this decision and allow the Max Grill to return to its previous closing time of midnight. This small change can have a significant positive impact on the student body, ensuring that students have access to affordable and convenient meal options that fit their demanding schedules.
