Reinstate KSU Vegan Section in the Commons

The Issue

The KSU Commons is known for making the top 10 collegiate dining halls in the country, primarily because of the variety of food that is offered.  For vegans and vegetarians, the KSU Commons provided meals high in protein and high in popularity.  Non-vegans/non-vegetarians would also eat these foods to try to branch out or include more plant-based meals in their diets.

As of Spring semester 2024, the Commons has removed the Vegan section completely.  There are still vegan/vegetarian options, but none that provide adequate nutrition (primarily protein) for those who do not consume animal products.  Along with the lack of awareness of vegan students' health, this action also disproportionately impacts ethnic, racial, and religious minorities, as there are a great many KSU vegans who adhere to a vegan diet due to cultural and/or religious practices.

By removing the Vegan section, KSU Dining is actively discriminating against vegans and vegetarians, a violation of KSU's discrimination policy that targets people with disabilities, racial and ethnic minorities, and people who religiously do not consume animal products.  Additionally, a balanced diet is essential to a healthy learning environment, and removing most/all sources of vegan protein from the Commons is incredibly dangerous and unhealthy for many students.  If KSU truly believes in equity, equal opportunity, and students' health, then they will bring back the vegan section before the end of the semester.

ADDITIONALLY... if they refuse to bring back the vegan section, anyone who subscribes to a vegan or vegetarian diet should be exempt from the required meal plan purchase.  It is incredibly unfair to make students pay an exorbitant amount for food that they cannot eat.
