The Issue

For the last 28 years, Kathleen Kane has played a pivotal role at our courthouse at Queens Criminal Court. She has led the way and created a path for our court reporting family, and has made it so that each of us are able to show up to each of our respective courtrooms every day with integrity and pride in what we do as keepers of the record. She has been the face of our department for many years and is beloved throughout the entire courthouse, both in Lower Court and in Supreme.

It wasn’t until this week, March 19, 2026, that we were all blindsided by her transfer to another borough as this was neither requested by Kathy, nor was she given a reason for this.

Not only does Kathy take care of our team of court reporters, but she is also the sole caregiver of her mother. This means that after a full day's work, Kathy then assists to her mother for the majority of her evenings, and still shows up to work every morning with a "Good morning, everybody!" and an infectious smile. Despite her late nights and her outside matters, Kathy has stood by us, celebrated our wins, and held our hands through our own struggles, whether they be work related or personal. This transfer has created a hardship for Kathy, her mother and our staff.

On behalf of the majority of the QCC Court Reporters, we are pleading for your support in our fight to reinstate Kathy Kane as Court Reporting Supervisor in Queens Criminal Court. We will fight for her in the same way that she would for any one of us at QCC.
