REINSTATE JULES AS A MINUS18 YOUTH MENTOR
The issue
We are a group of young people who have been positively impacted by Jules during her time at Minus18. She has majorly helped in creating an environment where we feel safe, supportive, and seen. This is something that is not easily replaced. Her departure would leave a noticeable gap in the community, and many of us feel that her work remains essential.
For us, Minus18 is a place we have come to feel seen, heard, and valued as people figuring out our identities and life. The mentors who help guide us are a large and indispensable part of that community.
Jules is one of the most valued mentors in the Minus18 discord, and the fact that she is now leaving - not due to her own accord, but the fact that her role is now "redundant" is honestly shocking and simply untrue.
Jules's role at Minus18 is not only the opposite of being redundant, but is a necessity.
She has helped and supported so many young LGBTQIA+ teenagers, and the fact that multiple of us have collaborated in making this petition speaks to that.
A lot of people in our community agree they feel they can talk to Jules if needed. Taking away this connection completely would not only be disappointing, but potentially damaging.
Jules has connected with the group as a whole, while also creating a healthy balance of friendliness and professionalism individually. For me, Alice, I have many ongoing inside jokes with Jules, which is something I look forward to continuing every two weeks.
There are many of us, including Alice, Kai, and plenty of others that believe this is a wrong decision.
We strongly urge reconsideration of this decision, or exploration of alternative solutions which allow her to remain at least somewhat involved. Letting Jules attend Queer formals and other Minus18 events, as well as what else can be organized, would be greatly appreciated. Her presence genuinely matters to us.
