Reinstate 'Job and Finish' for Our Valued Refuse Workers

The Issue

As a concerned citizen and neighbour, I have witnessed the dedication and sheer hard work of our refuse collectors right here in Swansea, UK. Theirs is not a glamorous job but the service they provide affects all of us. Trudging through all types of weather, lifting extremely heavy loads, they are the unsung heroes who keep our city clean. Many suffer from back problems and calloused feet due to the demanding nature of their work. It's a role that requires them to walk over 25,000 steps in a shift, a testament to their commitment.

Recently, a policy that allowed these hardworking people to go home and rest once their task was complete, regardless of the time - Job and Finish, was unjustly removed. Now, irrespective of the time they finish or the amount of work done, they are required to stay around until 2PM. This egregious decision exposes them to unnecessary additional hardship and devalues their tireless efforts.

Our refuse workers deserve better than this, the right to rest after their strenuous work has been finished should not be taken away. The removal of 'Job and Finish' is not just an affront to the dignity of these hard-working individuals, but also an act of utter disregard for their wellbeing.

This is a call to the decision-makers to reverse this policy. Reinstate 'Job and Finish' for our refuse workers, giving them the respect they deserve and acknowledge their essential role in our community. Now, more than ever, we must support those who work so hard for us. Please, sign this petition to stand with our local refuse collectors in Swansea, UK and fight for their right to a fair work condition.
