Reinstate International Women’s Day

The Issue

International Women’s Day (IWD), which we celebrate globally on March 8th, has been removed from Google Calendar, a platform used by billions worldwide.

This day is not just a celebration—it’s a global acknowledgment of the contributions, struggles, and progress of women across all industries, backgrounds, cultures, and communities.

IWD, celebrated annually on March 8, was officially recognized by the United Nations in 1977. It serves as both a celebration and a call to action for women's rights worldwide.

Google's choice to exclude such an impactful day from its calendar can potentially convey a concerning message that the accomplishments, challenges, and advancements of women are not significant enough to gain recognition. Removing IWD could lead to diminishing its essentiality, despite its official acknowledgment in numerous countries and its relevance to millions globally.

Let’s use this petition as a platform to remind Google about the importance of representation. We’re inviting you to join our cause and #BringBackIWD on Google Calendar, thereby emphasizing that the recognition of women’s contributions to society should never be trivialized. Let us urge Google to do better, affirm its commitment to equality, and help keep the global importance of International Women’s Day alive.

This isn’t just a date—it’s a movement. Representation matters, and erasing IWD sends the wrong message.

Google, do better.
