Reinstate Essential Day Services for Adult Disabilities in Aberdeenshire

Reinstate Essential Day Services for Adult Disabilities in Aberdeenshire
The Issue
My youngest brother Fraser, a perfect gentleman loved by all, happens to live with a learning difficulty. He is provided care by Inspire, in his own flat in the beautiful complex of St James' Court, Inverurie where his care is structured around his individual needs. Prior to the global pandemic, Fraser spent four days a week working at The Pitscurry Project in Pitcaple, a day service that greatly enriched his life in every way. Post pandemic this service was cut to two days per week for Fraser and for many others. Aberdeenshire Council have announced this week that Fraser will now receive NO day service whatsoever. This is going to have a huge impact on Fraser - and countless others - it is a grossly abnormal way of life that will affect physical and mental health and is totally unacceptable.
In Aberdeenshire, the only adults who will now be offered day services are those with disturbed behaviour and those who live at home with parents. This is targeting a group of our society that may struggle to voice their discontent. Day services should be available to all in need, not just those with disruptive behaviour or those living at home. The injustice here is not just a local concern, but a national one.
Fraser's enriched way of living will be compromised, as will many others in a similar position and I simply cannot sit back as a sister or as a member of society and allow this to happen without doing something.
Our call is directed to all stakeholders, where we implore them to recognise the invaluable support these services give to our brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters. We urge the local and national decision-makers to take immediate action to reinstate these essential services – for Fraser and for all individuals in our community with additional needs and disabilities, because everyone deserves to live a fulfilled life.
Please take 30 seconds out your day to sign this now and not wait until later and forget, join us in our campaign, sign the petition and lend your voice to a crucial cause and let's make a difference together.
