Reinstate COVID Vaccine Recommendation for Pregnant Women—Protect Moms and Babies

Reinstate COVID Vaccine Recommendation for Pregnant Women—Protect Moms and Babies
The Issue
Pregnant women are at higher risk for severe complications from COVID-19—including hospitalization, ICU admission, and even death. COVID infection during pregnancy also increases the risk of stillbirth and preterm birth.
Yet in May 2025, the CDC quietly removed pregnant women from its official adult immunization schedule for COVID-19 vaccines—with no public explanation, no supporting data, and no outreach to the medical community.
This abrupt change contradicts the FDA’s position and the overwhelming consensus of medical experts.
We’re calling on HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the CDC to correct this immediately reinstate a formal COVID-19 vaccine recommendation for pregnant women in the CDC’s immunization schedule.
The evidence is clear:
- Maternal vaccination protects both mother and baby
- It is safe at any point during pregnancy
- It reduces risks of hospitalization, preterm delivery, and infant complications
The Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the FDA all agree: this vaccine is essential.
By removing the recommendation without transparency or evidence, HHS is leaving families—and healthcare providers—confused and unprotected.
We need clarity. We need leadership. And we need the CDC to stand with science and pregnant people.
Reinstate the guidance. Rebuild trust. Protect moms and babies.
