Currently the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter is without a trainer or behaviorist. New dogs come into the shelter every day. Those dogs need to be evaluated in order for potential adopters, staff, and volunteers to get key information on the dog’s behavior.

The Town had an excellent trainer for the past 6 years. Ms. Christie Fanti resigned on Tuesday, because she wasn’t getting the support from the town that she deserved. Instead of offering her a long overdue FULL TIME position they continually try to bring in another part time trainer. The shelter has the money to afford a full time trainer. There was no reason to withhold this position from Ms. Fanti. She has been a loyal servant to the community and is well respected by adopters, staff, and volunteers. 

Without Ms Fanti’s expertise these dogs will continue to pile up and languish in the shelter system.

Please implore Town of Hempstead Supervisor Donald X Clavin Jr to do the right thing and hire Ms. Christie Fanti as the Full Time Shelter Behaviorist.
