The Issue

As a local business owner, cyclist, pedestrian, car owner, and stalwart believer in Inverclyde's potential, I am deeply concerned about the negative impact that the new cycle lanes on West Blackhall Street have had on our community. These lanes are neither a popular destination for cyclists, nor do they connect any significant cycle routes. Removing car parking spaces to make way for a cycle lane in this area is significantly damaging to local businesses, which rely on the availability of parking for their customers.

We understand and appreciate the importance of providing bike lanes and promoting such environmentally friendly means of transportation. However, this should not come at the expense of local businesses and community vitality. The current arrangement is not in line with the interests of the public majority. It has been imposed without adequate consultation and disregard for the needs of local business owners and residents.

We urge the relevant authorities to listen to their constituents and rectify the situation. We believe there are better ways to balance the need for smart growth, community vitality, and environmental considerations.

We call on Inverclyde's community members to sign this petition demanding the removal of the cycle lanes the length of West Blackhall Street and reinstatement of car parking. Protect our local businesses, our community, and our rights as constituents.
