Reinstate Capital Punishment for Exceptionally Heinous Crimes

Reinstate Capital Punishment for Exceptionally Heinous Crimes
The Issue
The recent Southport attack has rightfully outraged citizens across the UK, prompting us to urgently reconsider our stance on capital punishment. We, the undersigned, propose the reintroduction of capital punishment, specifically the firing squad, for use in exceptional cases, such as that of the Southport attacker. Capital punishment was abolished in the UK to minimize the risk of executing innocent individuals. However, this case is different, as the perpetrator is unequivocally guilty. This brings us to question if special circumstances merit special consideration. There is widespread concern about the use of taxpayers' money to support the incarceration of such individuals. A 2019 study by the Ministry of Justice indicated that each prisoner costs approximately £40,000 per annum to the public purse (Ministry of Justice UK, 2019). It is time to re-examine our policies, taking into account the severity of the crime and the public sentiment. Please sign this petition if you believe the UK should reconsider its position on capital punishment for exceptionally heinous crimes.
We need a strong deterent in place to stop this happening again, let's make a change.
