Reinstate ASMR channels for minors aged 13-17 on YouTube

Reinstate ASMR channels for minors aged 13-17 on YouTube
The Issue
My name is GardenASMR, and I'm a 15-year-old ASMR creator on YouTube. I have a passion for creating ASMR content, which not only brings joy to my audience but also helps me save for my future and navigate my high school years financially. Unlike traditional jobs that may require long hours unsuitable for students, creating ASMR videos has been a flexible and practical way for me to earn money. Never once have I felt endangered creating asmr or had it harm my mental well being.
However, YouTube took a drastic step by banning minors between the ages of 13 and 17 from creating ASMR content, citing concerns that were buried in fine print under a dropdown box. This measure lacks transparency and punishes responsible young creators like me without addressing the root issues.
ASMR has been a therapeutic medium for many, fostering a community that thrives on creativity and comfort. For minors, it's an opportunity not just to express themselves but to also gain financial independence and handle educational expenses. Instead of an outright ban, we need YouTube to implement measures that truly protect minors, like enhanced monitoring systems and stricter reporting protocols for any inappropriate behavior, while still allowing responsible content creation.
Consider platforms like Twitch, TikTok, and Instagram which have managed to create safer spaces for young creators without banning creation all together through stringent policies and transparent guidelines. YouTube could adopt similar frameworks, ensuring a protected yet inclusive environment for young ASMR artists.
We call on YouTube to reconsider this ban and instead empower young creators by providing a constructive pathway that encourages safe content sharing. Let’s find a balance that both protects minors and allows them to flourish in their creative endeavors.
Sign this petition to urge YouTube to lift the ban on ASMR content for minors aged 13-17 and enable them to pursue their passions responsibly.
