REINSTATE ANIMAL CONTROL'S CHIEF CATHERINE MARTINETTE & LIEUTENANT LAURA MIDKIFF

REINSTATE ANIMAL CONTROL'S CHIEF CATHERINE MARTINETTE & LIEUTENANT LAURA MIDKIFF
The Issue
Petition to Reinstate Chief Animal Warden Catherine Martinette and Animal Control Officer Laura Midkiff
We, the undersigned tax-paying citizens of Halifax County, express our deep concern regarding the recent termination of Chief Animal Warden Catherine Martinette and Animal Control Officer Laura Midkiff by the Halifax County Board of Supervisors. We believe that their termination lacks due process and transparency, as highlighted by Election District 8 Supervisor William Bryant Claiborne's statement that "We don’t have to have a reason" for their dismissal.
It is evident that the decision to terminate Martinette and Midkiff was influenced by the personal vendetta of certain members of the Abdeljalil family, who have a history of making baseless allegations against them. The allegations stem from their involvement in the seizure of animals from the Fur Feather ‘N Fins pet shop, owned by the Abdeljalil family, due to inadequate care. Furthermore, the Abdeljalil family has a track record of retaliating against individuals and businesses, such as Dr. William Will's veterinary practice, which was the only low-cost vet in the area.
The termination of Martinette and Midkiff's roles jeopardizes the enforcement of animal welfare laws in Halifax County and undermines their contributions to rescuing animals and ensuring shelter operations comply with regulations. As concerned citizens and animal lovers, we demand that the Halifax County Board of Supervisors:
1. Reinstate Catherine Martinette and Laura Midkiff to their respective positions immediately.
2. Conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding their termination, including the motivations behind the decision.
3. Publicly disclose the results of the investigation to the citizens of Halifax County.
We urge all citizens who value animal welfare and the rule of law to support this petition. Our law enforcement officers should not face retaliation for upholding the law and ensuring the welfare of animals in our community.
