Reinstate AI and FP as optional subjects in CBSE for class IX

The Issue

Having grown up with a strong interest in technology and future-ready skills, I know firsthand the importance of having educational options that cater to diverse interests and career aspirations. During my early academic journey, I was fortunate to have access to subjects that aligned with my passion for technology. It helped shape my career path and allowed me to explore future possibilities that I might not have otherwise considered.

Today, many students are missing out on such opportunities due to recent changes in the CBSE curriculum. The removal of optional subjects like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Food production (FP) from Class IX curriculum has significantly narrowed students' educational prospects. These subjects not only provide vital skills for the 21st century but also widen students' understanding of the world and prepare them for a dynamic job market.

Artificial Intelligence is not just a buzzword; it’s a critical component of our present and our future. From healthcare to finance, AI is revolutionizing industries. Introducing AI at an early stage, such as in Class IX, equips students with advanced skills and deep understanding, allowing them to become active participants and innovators. Meanwhile, Financial Planning is a vital life skill that everyone needs, fostering financial literacy and responsible management of resources from a young age.

Research shows that students who have access to a broad range of subjects perform better academically and are more engaged in their studies. They develop critical thinking skills and creativity that are vital to navigate complex challenges in life and work. Furthermore, offering subjects like AI and FP allows students to identify and pursue their individual interests, which leads to better self-awareness and informed career choices.

It's crucial for educational boards such as CBSE to recognize the need for diverse educational offerings that reflect the evolving landscape of global industries and personal student interests. By reinstating these optional subjects, the education system acknowledges not just the demands of a futuristic job market, but also respects and nurtures varied student passions.

Join me in urging the CBSE board to bring back AI and FP as optional subjects for Class IX. Let’s stand together to advocate for a more inclusive and forward-thinking education policy. Sign this petition and support students in receiving an education that enriches their future.
