Like many families in the CCSD community, my children and I have come to rely heavily on the after school teacher-led programs provided at the school. These programs have enriched their educational experience, offering tutoring, arts, sports, and other vital activities. But suddenly, with no notice or explanation, we were informed that these essential clubs and programs led by our teachers were canceled. 

This abrupt decision has left us in dismay and searching for answers. Our beloved and trusted teachers who led these programs are being sidelined, and our children are being deprived of their right to enrichment and community.

After school programs are not just an extension of the school day; they are lifelines for families. They provide safe, educational environments where our children can continue to learn and grow. They support working parents who need reliable care for their children beyond school hours, and they nurture interests and talents that might otherwise go unexplored. The teacher-led programs that were eliminated were affordable and provided more availability for afterschool care. 

The benefits of after school programs are numerous and well-documented. According to a report by the Afterschool Alliance, children who participate in after school programs have improved academic performance, reduced risky behaviors, and increased school attendance. In fact, 100% of participating children have demonstrated higher engagement levels and essential social skills development. Without these programs, many students may lose the opportunities they need to excel both socially and academically. The sudden cancellation of these teacher-led programs places a tremendous burden on families and teachers. Let us unite to demand that the school district allow us to restore and even enhance these programs. 

We call upon the Clark County School Board and local government officials to reverse this decision and reinstate the teacher-led after-school programs our children thrive in and parents depend on.
