The issue

Safety is key and this is not about parents not looking after kids. It's about ensuring a safe environment for all, especially when it comes to managing multiple children or children with disabilities who may be prone to running.

Therefore, I am calling on the Kyogle Council to reinstate the fencing around the council-owned pool, a step that is absolutely necessary for ensuring the safety of everyone using the facility.

Inclusion of every single person, regardless of their abilities, must be a priority. The removal of the fencing has disregarded the vital requirements set forth in the Disability Inclusion Action Plans (DIAPs), compromising the safety measures that should protect vulnerable individuals, including children with disabilities.

Safety protocols such as appropriate fencing are necessary to prevent accidents and ensure that the pool is accessible and safe for all members of our community.

Without proper fencing around the small pool, there is an increased risk of incidents. Statistics show that effective pool fencing can reduce the risk of drowning by up to 83%. This issue is not just about convenience; it is about protecting lives. In Australia, drowning is a leading cause of accidental death for children under five, and taking preventive measures like fencing is an obligation we must fulfill.

Therefore, I urge the Kyogle Council to reconsider their decision and promptly act to reinstall the pool fencing. This step is not just an upgrade, but a necessity for safeguarding our community members.

Please, lend your voice to this cause and help ensure the safety of all by signing this petition to reinstate the pool fencing at the Kyogle council-owned pool. Your signature can help us make a difference and push the council to take the necessary actions to protect our community.
