Reinstate FSU Quarterback De’Andre Johnson
The Issue
FSU Quarterback De’Andre Johnson was suspended indefinitely for punching a woman who had punched and kicked him in a nightclub.
Video evidence shows that FSU Quarterback De’Andre Johnson had gone to the bar to order some drinks. A woman on his right was also going to get some drinks in this crowded bar.
FSU Quarterback De’Andre Johnson asked a woman on his left to move so that he could get to the bar. After bumping into each other, the woman is seen raising her fist to hit FSU Quarterback De’Andre Johnson.
FSU Quarterback De’Andre Johnson grabs and holds the woman's raised fist and then she kicks him in the groin. the woman then punches him in the face and he punches back.
On June 25, the head football coach at FSU, Jimbo Fisher, announced Johnson's indefinite suspension for a violation of athletic department policy. Fisher dismissed Johnson from the team, effective immediately, after the surveillance video was released Monday.
The former freshman quarterback is being charged with battery.
In the United States, a stand-your-ground law is a law that authorizes a person to protect and defend one's own life and limb against threat or perceived threat. This law states that an individual has no duty to retreat from any place he/she has a lawful right to be and may use any level of force, including lethal, if he/she reasonably believes he/she faces an imminent and immediate threat of serious bodily harm or death; this is as opposed to duty to retreat laws.

776.012 Use or threatened use of force in defense of person.—
(1) A person is justified in using or threatening to use force, except deadly force, against another when and to the extent that the person reasonably believes that such conduct is necessary to defend himself or herself or another against the other’s imminent use of unlawful force. A person who uses or threatens to use force in accordance with this subsection does not have a duty to retreat before using or threatening to use such force.
