The Issue

Aspyr Media, the company that published "Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered" has released an "update" for the trilogy collection on March 12th, 2026 that has caused save-game corruption, traps to not function/not cause Lara damage, audio issues, scrambled textures, and a plethora of other glitches that were not there to begin with, plus it includes content that fans have not asked for such as new (poorly designed and likely AI) outfits, and a subpar "challenge mode" that requires players to beat to unluck the outfits no one asked for. The March 12th "update" does not include any of the requested features that fans have been asking for in the past year, such as 60fps mode for retro graphics, additional animations, or a brightness scale which are featured in "Tomb Raider 4 and 5 Remastered". There are also existing issues from before this update that persist, such as semi-transparency issues with water, and modern controls having a handful of unresolved quirks that 4 and 5 Remastered don't have.

That year-long wait could have been used to further develop this trilogy in the hands of Saber Interactive, the often uncredited creators of these remastered collections, so it could have the graphical standards that the original three Tomb Raider games deserve.

Us Tomb Raider fans wish for the original remaster development team and Saber Interactive to be rehired so they can continue at least one more patch for the trilogy so that they can be up to the same graphical standards that Tomb Raider 4 and 5 Remastered have set.

If this cannot be done, then the best course of action is to revert the games back to the previous version (Patch 4), and to not touch these games again unless competent developers who understand both the game code and what fans want are hired to develope it.

Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered was made as a love letter to fans of classic Tomb Raider, and was meant as a form of preservation for the first three titles of this beautifully crafted original trilogy from the 90s. Aspyr treating it like a live service game and forcing a game-breaking, unwanted update with thematically unfitting and equally tacky mobile-quality outfits on ALL players should be seen as both a slap in the face of the players who have spent tons of money on this remaster collection and subsequent merch/editions, and to the developers who worked so hard to get this beautiful collection to the fans.
