Regulate Private School & College Fees Across India

The Issue

Education in India is a fundamental right, not a luxury. Yet today, private schools and colleges across the country are charging arbitrary, unjustified, and continuously increasing fees, pushing millions of middle-class and poor families into financial distress.

Every academic year, parents are forced to accept sudden fee hikes without any transparency or explanation. Many institutions collect non-academic charges such as development fees, activity fees, transport fees, and miscellaneous charges that have no clear accountability. In several cases, parents are threatened with denial of admit cards, examination access, or student promotion if fees are not paid immediately.

Higher education is no different. Private colleges charge excessive tuition, hidden fees, and compulsory hostel or service charges, leaving students burdened with debt even before they begin their careers. Despite these high fees, quality of education, infrastructure, and student welfare often remain poor.

Education should empower families, not bankrupt them.

⚠️ Key Problems Faced by Parents & Students

No national regulation on private school and college fees
Arbitrary annual fee hikes without justification
Lack of transparency in fee structure and utilization
Collection of illegal or non-academic charges
Parents and students have no effective grievance redressal system
Commercialization of education under the guise of “private management”

✅ Our Demands

We urge the Government of India and State Governments to:

Establish a National Education Fee Regulatory Authority

Make fee structure approval mandatory before each academic year
Limit annual fee hikes to a reasonable and regulated percentage
Ensure public disclosure of fee components and utilization
Prohibit collection of unauthorized and non-academic fees
Create a fast and effective grievance redressal mechanism for parents and students
Penalize institutions that violate fee regulations or harass families

🇮🇳 Why This Matters

Education determines the future of our nation. When schools and colleges become profit-driven businesses, students suffer, families suffer, and India’s future suffers.

This petition is not against private institutions, but against unregulated profiteering in education. Fair regulation will protect parents, students, and ethical institutions alike.

🙏 Call to Action

We request all parents, students, teachers, and concerned citizens of India to support this petition and demand fair, transparent, and affordable education for every child and student.
