Regulate pickleball activities in HDB estates

Regulate pickleball activities in HDB estates
The Issue
Pickleball, a rising sport in Singapore, has brought many people together in recreational fun. However, its increasing popularity in Housing and Development Board (HDB) estates has led to various issues that need immediate attention.
The rapid proliferation of pickleball-playing sites in these residential areas has resulted in not only noise pollution but also concerns about safety and unauthorized use of public spaces not designed for such activities.
In densely populated areas like Singapore’s HDB estates, residents have a right to enjoy the tranquility of their homes without unnecessary disturbance.
According to reports, the noise created by pickleball games often disturbs families, students, and night shift workers who require daytime rest. In addition to noise, the spontaneous use of void decks and other open spaces for pickleball poses a safety risk, as these areas were not constructed or approved for active sports.
This can lead to accidental injuries and property damage, affecting community harmony and safety.
To address these challenges, we urge the relevant authorities to restrict the activity of pickleball to designated, pre-approved courts or community centers where the infrastructure is designed to accommodate sports.
This would ensure that pickleball enthusiasts have appropriate facilities tailored for the sport, which would minimize disruptions and maximize safety. Furthermore, organizing pickleball activities at official sports venues can foster community building through proper scheduling and regulation, providing a safer and more enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
For the well-being of all residents and the sustainable growth of pickleball in Singapore, we call upon the authorities to implement clear regulations that balance leisure activities with the rights of residents to a peaceful living environment.
Please sign this petition to advocate for regulated pickleball play in HDB estates and help maintain the comfort and safety of our community.
