Regulate fireworks use in residential areas

The Issue

I, like so many others, have sensory issues, and it seems that people with sensory issues are often overlooked when it comes to legislation and regulations regarding fireworks. The reality is we are affected more than anybody else. Fireworks are not just a minor annoyance; they create an inescapable noise that can be crippling. People like me end up feeling trapped, and this isn't just about discomfort—it can lead to self-harm or mental anguish.

My husband and I are deeply affected by fireworks that go on until 4 o’clock in the morning. My husband struggles to get the rest he needs, leading to him being sleep-deprived when he has to go to work the next day. Our story is not unique—many others endure these disturbances, impacting their health, work, and well-being.

Moreover, let's not forget our furry companions who tremble in fear when fireworks are set off. The environmental impact of fireworks isn't negligible either, contributing to pollution and harming wildlife. Yet, these downsides are often overlooked despite being far more significant than any perceived cultural or celebratory benefits.

Additionally, there is an entire community of individuals with mental health issues, including those with PTSD, who suffer immensely during fireworks displays. It is high time their voices are heard, and actions are taken to ease their burden.

We urge local authorities to regulate the hours during which fireworks can be set off and prohibit them in residential areas. This change is necessary not only for people with sensory issues but for an entire spectrum of affected individuals and animals. By implementing stricter regulations, we can reduce unnecessary distress and create a more harmonious living environment for everyone. we understand that people like fireworks but what we are asking is that they’re not going on till 1 o’clock in the morning. We’re asking you to consider two hours which is more than time for fireworks to go off at a reasonable time between 8 pm and 10 pm.

five days of fireworks is too long. There should be a nominated day and firework should only be allowed on these days such as 1 day for Diwali 1 day for Eid 1 day for New Year. They are not needed every single day. if the government would hold more events for people that want to use fireworks that would be a good way for the local councils and the government to make money while reducing the impact that the fireworks have on those in the community.
