The Issue

In 2008, I purchased a new-build property. Shortly after, it was assigned to an estate management company whose fees were high yet provided very little in return. Despite the residents later taking over estate management which promised reduction in fees and improved services, the reality was starkly different. I pay lower fees now, yet I receive virtually no services - even the maintenance of communal areas can be delayed or neglected. This lack of service, despite the pricing, made it clear to me: estate management companies need regulation and a system of redress should they fail to provide the services for which they charge.

Estate management companies currently exist in a space with little regulation. They decide their own fees and often fail to deliver the services that homeowners pay for. Whilst exact figures are hard to determine, the experience I have, along with countless other anecdotal evidence, suggests a need for intervention. Government must step in to regulate these companies, holding them accountable for their promises and demanding transparency in their charging structures.

Regulation of estate management companies is not just about fairness; it's about ensuring the quality of our homes and our communities. Homeowners should not be paying high fees for services they do not receive or for promises that are not fulfilled. Please join me in calling for stricter regulation and accountability for estate management companies.
