Regulate CPS with Accountability and Evidence, Protect Our Families
The Issue
My story is one that is sad. I am a grandmother of a three year old child who suffers from autism. I spent so much time with my little man, helping him figure out how to relate some of his feelings. How to let one know what he wanted without many words at all. He is so bright, and he would let you know without a doubt; what he wanted and never say a word.
We are on the poor side of the blue collar working families so our house is never good enough for the upper class people. We repair other homes and get not enough time to repair ours.
One night a team of Sheriffs were called in on a tip of a robbery. They were already in my home looking for the person accused of it, without permission. As my room mate had a blue warrant, they arrested him. Now they state they found some drugs or drug paraphernalia, which their warrant did not cover. They called CPS without letting anyone know what they took out of the house.
I do not have custody of my grandchild. I was just watching him. Yet from this came the first visit from CPS. Then they started calling family members and so called friends trying to find something against us; as they could not find anything to use so far. They happened to find one family member, for the life of me, that does not like us and they took her lies and allegations to the judge as concrete proof to take my grandson from my daughter and make a case against her when she was not involved at all.
CPS even showed up at my home with a team of Sheriffs and to my understanding it was important that they get my grandson out as if his life depended on it. However you could see the moment that I was forced out of my home to talk to this CPS worker against my will, that some of these officers did not agree to why they were there. One tried to stand up for us. Asking if we could go to the doctor visit that they were taking him to by themselves. Possibly even follow along. and was told no "she was scared she would be jumped." We did not show any signs of aggression to them. When this Sargent even asked if he was coming home as he believed he should they said yes. Then not even thirty minutes later my daughter got the call stating to pick him up from CPS. Not enough time to even get to a doctor in our town.
If they could have just had the right the duty to state "Hey this is not what you made it sound this is not right. You can not take that boy." I would not be here having worries that an autistic child was sad and lonely and no way to express any of this.
All it would have taken is for that Sargent to have that right. If CPS were to show up at a home with the officers and see that CPS is abusing their official title to destroy and not help, Stand and say "STOP" That would let so many honest good families stay together. Maybe force CPS to work on the cases they are truly needed for. I believe that in every case a badge should have to go and make sure that If a child is removed then that child is removed for all the right reasons. Not for allegations. That the ones that were not there do not pay the price. My daughter was not involved until the call yet she now has to walk the crooked line made my CPS.
