Regulate Commercial Vehicles Parked in Residential Areas Like Recreational Vehicles

The Issue

This personal plea comes from a residence in a hardworking neighborhood that embodies many small home-based businesses. As with many homes in this diverse community, we use commercial vehicles to perform our livelihood. On our half-acre property, we securely park our box truck behind our fence, unseen from the street view, yet visible from a higher vantage point.

Despite these measures, we find ourselves at odds with the city codes which states we cannot have our commercial vehicle on our property unless we are actively using it. Such regulation is unjust and does not take into consideration the realities faced by many families engaging in home-based businesses.

This sentiment is cosmopolitan across our community, with many homes housing various types of commercial vehicles. We propose the city government to consider adopting a similar approach to the storage of commercial vehicles as they do with recreational vehicles with some other restrictions removed for other sorts of commercial vehicles types. For Example Sprinter Vans, should be allowed to be parked in the driveway. Larger commercial vehicles behind a fence for neighborhood preservation.

Statistics show that 48% of businesses are home-based. Incorporating flexible ordinances that recognize the rights, needs, and contributions of home-based businesses will promote economic dynamism in our city. Isn't it time to rethink how we regulate these essential building blocks of our community?

We fervently urge our community, leaders, and stakeholders to reconsider these regulations. That is why we need your signatures. Please support us in endowing commercial vehicles in residential neighborhoods with the same guidelines as recreational vehicles, sign this petition today!
