E-bikes are fast becoming.ing a viable alternative to automobiles.  They can be an effective environmentally friendly option for commuting.  However being that they are entirely electronic, it is easy to bypass speed limiters allowing them to enter the same realm as motorcycles.  

Factor in that these bikes can weigh upwards of 500 lbs, when they collide with a person, vehicle, or personal property, the damage can be extensive.   One instance where a rider ran a red light and was t-boned by a Volkswagen, the damage to the car was over 5k, entirely on the car owner and their insurance.  The ebike operator got a highway traffic fine for failing to stop and zero financial consequence for the damage caused to the car.   

Ebike riders increasingly violate highway traffic laws by running stop signs/red lights, riding on sidewalks, bike paths and so forth.  The operators of these devices often use them because they have lost their driver's licenses due to various infractions including driving while intoxicated.  

It is time for these bikes to be registered, licensed and insured as vehicles and the operators to fall in line with the same laws that every other driver has to obey.  This petition will be delivered to every politician I can get it to but it needs your support.  Sign and share now!
