The signatories below call on the Region of Waterloo to commit to a 10-year target of 50% greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction below 2010 levels by 2030 ("50by30"), leading the just transition necessary for a more equitable, safe climate future. This target is in line with what the most credible climate science makes clear is required to uphold Canada's national commitments in the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, and to secure a livable climate future for people today as well as generations to come. This work must be grounded in justice and undertaken in solidarity with, and prioritizing the needs of, those most impacted by climate change in our community.
