Regina’s Cats Are Suffering: Help Rescues & Families Now
The Issue
I am one person, but I am speaking for many.
For the rescues who are overwhelmed.
For the volunteers who are exhausted.
I run a small rescue here in Regina.
Every day I see the reality most people don’t see.
Cats hiding in storm drains just to stay warm.
Cats hit by cars and left suffering.
Cats injured, starving, or hurt by people.
I see the ones no one else sees.
And I see how many there are.
For the low-income families who want to do the right thing but cannot afford to.
And most importantly — for the cats who are suffering every single day.
Regina is facing a cat overpopulation crisis.
Stray, abandoned, and feral cats are:
Freezing in our winters
Dieing from heat exposure and no water to drink on hot days
Getting hit by cars
Being hurt by people
Starving on our streets
Suffering from untreated injuries and illness
Reproducing into a system that cannot support them
Rescues are full.
Resources are stretched.
And still — more kittens are being born into suffering. Adult cats and young cats being turned to the streets to survive when people move, they just abandon them.
This is the reality: There are not enough homes.
There are not enough resources.
There is not enough support.
And families who care are often left without affordable options to spay or neuter their pets.
This is not just a rescue problem.
This is not just a family problem.
This is a community responsibility.
Compassion must include prevention.
Support must reach those who need it most.
We are asking for help from the City of Regina and the Regina Humane Society:
Accessible low-cost or free spay & neuter programs
Support for low-income families
Funding and support for all rescues
Collaboration between the city, humane society, and rescues
Public education on responsible pet ownership
This is a call for help — for rescues, for families, and for the animals.
We are not asking for perfection.
We are asking for action.
Because prevention is compassion.
Because silence is suffering.
Because all cats matter.
